Women's Beginner Fly Fishing Retreat
Friday, August 8th - Sunday, August 10th
Monte Vista, CO
This retreat is ideal for women who want to gain a well rounded knowledge of what it takes to fly fish independently. If you have never been fly fishing, that’s more than okay– we had many first timers on our trip last year. If you have been fishing maybe with a partner or a friend but want to start doing it solo, this is the spot for you too!
Event Overview
This retreat will weave together experiences of adventure, nature immersion, relaxation and sisterhood. On Friday, we will meet up, set up our camps and get to know one another. On Saturday morning, we will have a slow morning learning about knots and doing a casting lesson. Throughout Saturday and Sunday, our guide, Stella, will take folks out on the river in small groups so you get a really personal and in-depth understanding of how to read the water, how to traverse the river, and how to bring a fish in! When you’re not fishing, you’ll be hanging out at camp with Fran. At camp we will have fly-tying materials, you can practice setting up your own rig, or can just take a nap/read/crochet, etc. You will leave feeling relaxed, knowledgeable and content!
Facilitator and Guides
This experience will be facilitated by Fran, founder of Empowered to Explore. Fran is a certified Women’s Guidance Facilitator, a Wilderness First Responder, and has been professionally facilitating outdoor learning experiences for 7 years. She brings an introspective element into exploring the outdoors which allows you to more deeply connect with yourself, your intuition, and your confidence through your adventures.
Our fly fishing guide will be Stella, our same amazon guide as last season. Stella has been a local fly fishing guide for 4 years and as a lifetime local, she knows the area and its’ rivers very well!! Stella spends her whole year teaching others, whether that be fishing, rafting, skiing, or snowboarding. Because of her decade of outdoor education experience, she knows how to kindly and effectively teach folks how to conquer those outdoor activities that may appear daunting.
Logistics
All meals (2 Dinners, 2 Breakfasts, 2 Lunches)) are included in the price of registration, as is all the necessary fishing gear (such as rods and waders) and payment for the guides and facilitators. If you need any camping gear, we have rental items available, just indicate your need for gear on your registration form.
*** All Tiered Pricing includes the same experiences and accommodations, we encourage people to select the tier that best works for them and their financial situation.
This retreat last year was a fan favorite! It sold out very early so don’t sleep on this one.
